Just over a year ago, Corey and Kristin exchanged vows for the first time on a cloudy winter day near the Lake Michigan shoreline. Their friends and family were all there to witness the moment. Everyone was emotional.
With the ups and downs of spending their entire first year of marriage in a pandemic, it felt like a vow renewal was in order. It would be a moment for them to reflect back on how their love for each other has grown and celebrate the life they were building together. There didn’t need to be more reason than that.
When planning to renew your vows, you don’t need a reason.
There isn’t a “right time” to reaffirm your love for each other. Every single moment is right. On your monthly coffee date, or your first anniversary, or when you visit the place you first met – they are all good enough reasons to express your gratitude for one another.
Corey and Kristin exchanged their vows on the shoreline of Lake Michigan – just like on the day they got married. With initialed vow books, they stood on a bluff, holding hands and pulling each other close for warmth. It was a beautiful way to celebrate their one-year anniversary as husband and wife. We are so in love with photographing this couple’s love that we hadn’t even left before we started planning documenting more of their life together.
The next time you get coffee, exchange love notes. The next time you go on vacation, plan the elopement you always wish you had. Bring your wedding dress to the mountaintop or stay cozy on the couch with takeout from your favorite downtown spot and smile and giggle and cry and enjoy each other’s company.
Your vow renewal doesn’t need to be elaborate, but just like your wedding day, you should celebrate in a way that feels authentic to you. That’s what this whole thing is about.
