Wisconsin Class of 2021 Senior
Elly Hermione
The year is 1813. While readers enjoy Jane Austen’s newly released Pride and Prejudice, not a thought of COVID-19 crosses their minds. Elly, at a young negative 183 years old, has not yet dreamed of what adventures her senior year would hold. But even in 2019, she was surely not thinking it would go like this. Despite the challenges that the newest senior class is facing, Elly is bound to make the most of it, and we’re so glad she took the time to tell us about it.
Your junior year obviously ended in a crazy way. In what ways do you see the pandemic as a positive experience?
The pandemic caused me to miss out on some cool trips and the end of my junior year. That being said, this still has been the best summer ever. I have become really close with a small group of friends and we even had our own mini prom.
What are you most looking forward to about your senior year?
I’m excited for my senior year and I can’t wait to graduate. I’m going to enjoy as many “lasts” as I can. It’s pretty uncertain what will happen this school year, so I’m not trying to look forward to anything and get my hopes up. I’m just going to appreciate being in school.
Have you thought about your post-high-school plans? Tell me about them!
My top two choices for school are UW-Platteville and UW-Steven’s Point. I plan on majoring in education. I want to teach gifted and talented.
What are you most looking forward to about graduating?
I’m excited to graduate because that means grad parties and grad parties mean food. Pulled pork is my favorite food. Mmm.
What is your favorite memory from high school so far?
I’ve had so many great memories from high school, but my favorite was when when I was a freshman. The whole school protested a sexist dress code and wore sleeveless shirts to school. I was young, but it was so exciting to be a part of change and that has inspired me to speak up about other injustices.
What was your favorite part about your senior session?
My favorite part about my session was having the best hype woman I could have asked for. Miranda and Joe kept the session upbeat and breezy (even though it was hotter than satan’s armpit). They were so easy going and helped all of my visions come to life.
It was so much fun watching Elly’s curls go from springy to wavy as her outfits and backdrop changed. Truthfully, the fact that these photos are very 2005 Keira Knightley Elizabeth Bennet – esque was a happy accident. Me oversharing her pictures? Happy, but no accident.
